Textilland Explorer Tour North

After a visit to the Textile Museum and a walk along the St.Gallen Textile Trail, the Textilland Explorer Tour North takes you out of the city and into nature, passing impressive orchards. In the town of Arbon, you will visit the Saurer Museum, featuring weaving and embroidery machines. Next, you will follow the shore of Lake Constance into the picturesque town of Rorschach. Here, we recommend taking a walk and stopping off at the gelateria at the Seerestaurant. The Museum im Kornhaus is also well worth a visit. The route will then take you up into Appenzellerland and to Heiden – to the quaint Biedermeierdorf, which you will be free to explore on your own. Next, you will make a stop at the textile village of Rehetobel. After that, you will arrive in Trogen, where seven palaces and a church line the edges of the Landsgemeindeplatz square, making this a village of national significance.

Textilland Explorer Tour South

The tour begins in the St.Gallen Textile Museum. Exquisite fabrics, embroidery and lace bring the fascinating history of textiles, from the Middle Ages to the present day, tangibly to life. When the weather is good, we recommend taking a walk along the St.Gallen Textile Trail. The tour continues onwards to Trogen in Appenzellerland. Here, seven palaces and a church line the edges of the Landsgemeindeplatz square, making this a village of national significance. Pass through the surrounding rolling hills to reach Appenzell in about 30 minutes. The main street, with its quaint, colourful buildings, is a real tourist magnet.

You can also discover textile treasures in the various museums on the trail. One such treasure is the Appenzeller Tracht (traditional Appenzell garb), which is considered one of Switzerland's most beautiful traditional costumes, because it is made by hand in a very complex process. Your route back to St.Gallen will take you through Uzwil. Here, we recommend making a stop at the town square. It is adorned with a piece of Schiffli embroidery from the 1910s.
