University of St.Gallen

Economics, law, society, and technology united in one place with historical foundations.

The University of St. Gallen (HSG) was founded in the spirit of the textile industry in eastern Switzerland. In 1898, textile entrepreneurs and visionaries established what was then known as the Commercial Academy in order to combine specialist knowledge with practical experience and secure an economic advantage for the region. From the very beginning, the textile industry was an integral part of the curriculum: fabric science, dyeing, international trade relations – the curriculum was as diverse as the industry itself. Today, the HSG is an internationally recognized university offering courses in economics, law, social sciences, international relations, and computer science. It remains a place of exchange where entrepreneurial thinking, social responsibility, and innovation are promoted – firmly rooted in the region and open to the world.
