Museum Neuthal Textile and Industrial Culture

The industrial ensemble in Neuthal invites you to an unforgettable visit. Experience the entire production process for a piece of fabric with functioning historical machines.

The Museum Neuthal shows 200 years of industrialisation and textile crafts in the Zurich Oberland with four thematic areas: Water Power and Work, Museum Spinning, Rüti Weaving Machine Collection and Hand Machine Embroidery.

On a tour through the ensemble, your guide will tell you a lot about the use of water power, the life of the home and factory workers and that of Adolf Guyer-Zeller.
In the museum spinning mill, let your guide explain the multi-stage spinning process "from cotton bale to yarn" on spinning machines from the 19th century.
A unique collection of weaving machines from the years 1860 to 1996 revisits the centuries of development from the hand loom to the most modern weaving process.
Take a look over the embroiderer's shoulders in the hand machine embroidery workshop and be amazed at how beautiful embroideries are created on the hand embroidery machine from 1890.

The Neuthal Textile and Industrial Culture Museum was rebuilt by experts in thousands of hours of hard work. The machines impress with their restored functionality, the oldest of which is over 150 years old. Visitors experience industrial culture from the heyday of the Swiss textile industry.
